About Gender Studies

Due to the merger of the institute for Youth studies and Gender studies, the following vision, mission statement and objectives were adopted:

Vision
Promoting equity,social justice on cross cutting issues of youth and gender for the transformation of society.

Mission
To be the centre of excellence and social transformation in the field of gender and Youth in development by providing leadership training,advocacy in social justice and equity,research and outreach work to meet the ever changing circumstances and needs of all marginalized groups in South Africa,the SADC region and beyond.

 Objectives
*To provide leadership training for Youth and women and other marginalized groups,
*To advocate and mainstream Gender and Youth issues in rural communities in order to address challenges of social justice
*To develop youth and Gender Programmes at  undergraduate and postgraduate levels that address issues of social transformation
*To conduct advocacy activities on gender and Youth in rural communities in order to address issues of Social Justice.
*To develop Youth and Gender Programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels that address issues of Social transformation.
*To conduct research on Gender, Youth and Development issues.
*To utilise the research to inform Gender and Youth policy development.
*To develop a community outreach programme targeting Gender and Youth issues in rural communities.
*To offer consultancy and advisory services to government and civil society organisations.
*To initiate and establish exchange programmes and linkages with other institutions in South Africa, the SADC region and beyond on issues of Youth and Gender.
*To develop a capacity building programme for the mainstreaming of Gender and Youth issues into the curriculum of the University of Venda.
