The University of Venda (Univen) and Wageningen University jointly hosted the Postgraduate supervision workshop which focused on effective academic development, competence and skills for PhD supervisors and academic staff. The training took place from 6 to 10 November 2017 at Univen Art Gallery.
The Postgraduate Supervision training that was officially opened by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof Jan Crafford, was facilitated by experts from the Wageningen University, the Netherlands comprising of Dr Claudius van de Vijver, the PhD Programme Coordinator, CT de WIT Graduate School for Production Ecology and Research Conservation (PE&RC); Barend van de Broek and Dr Lennart Suselbeek, PhD Programme Coordinator, PE&RC.

This training was attended by 30 staff members and postdoctoral students from different schools and departments. Highlights of the training included the seven habits of highly effective academics; the heart of communication; scientific writing and publishing.
Also present at the opening were Prof Ainamensa Mchau, Dean School of Agriculture and Senior Prof Georges-Ivo Ekosse, Director, Research and Innovation.

The facilitators paid a courtesy call to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Peter Mbati on Friday 10 November 2017. The Vice-Chancellor reiterated how the collaborative programme started after his visit to the Wageningen University in 2012. He showed his appreciation for the consistent support by the Wageningen University colleagues to the academic development of Univen. The workshop coordinated by the Directorate of International Relations came to a close after all participants had presented their future academic ambitions to the delight of the facilitators.
