Vision
In line with the University and School of Management Science vision, the Department of Accounting and Auditing aims to be a centre of excellence for tertiary accounting education for rural and regional development in Southern Africa.

Mission
The Department of Accounting and Auditing strives to offer a range of quality academic and career-focused programmes in accounting and other related disciplines aimed at promoting entrepreneurial, rural and regional development in all sectors of the economy through applicable and appropriate methodologies, research and community engagement .

Mandate
As the University transforms into a Comprehensive Institution by 2010, in terms of the Department of Education directive, the department of Accounting and Auditing at university of Venda is mandated to offer academic and career-focused general degrees, certificates and short courses in accounting and related disciplines mainly to promote entrepreneurial, rural and regional development in Southern Africa.

Community Engagement Activities
The Department has signed a contract to train staff in Book-keeping at Kutama-Sinthumule Correctional Centre in Makhado, Limpopo Province.

Similar activities have been undertaken at individual levels in the past for example, serving at local municipality audit committees, school governing bodies, etc. However, in line with current university policy on community engagement, projects or activities like these must be officially registered.
