Univen visits Anglo Platinum Ltd

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Operations, Dr JJ Zaaiman together with Mr B.L. Makhado met Mr Sibonelo Shinga, Head of Community Engagement and Development of Anglo Platinum Ltd, a mining company based in Johannesburg. The meeting took place on Tuesday 20 July 2010 at Anglo Platinum Head Office in Marshalltown.

The visit is part of the relationship building exercise campaign aimed at creating relationships with the corporate sector in order to forge mutual beneficial links that match Univen’s developmental needs. The campaign will also establish how companies would like to be approached and what type of support Univen might request.

Mr Sibonelo Shinga was impressed by the Univen presentation and immediately singled out the Community Training Centre and the Campus Health Clinic as the two infrastructural projects that Anglo Platinum would be prepared to consider for funding.

It was agreed that the University would submit specific proposals for community training centre as well as the campus health clinic.

Anglo Platinum also invited Univen to develop a proposal on the Centre of Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation.
