Adv Van der Walt hailed by international academics
Advocate Tharien van der Walt of the School of Law’s recent presentation ‘The use of force during arrest in South Africa: The saga continues…’, at the 7th International Conference on Law at the Athens Institute for Research and Learning was applauded by international academics.
Prof Lee Stuesser, Associate Dean of Teaching, Learning and Curriculum at the Faculty of Law at the Bond University in Queensland, Australia said it is so refreshing to have a person really talk to the audience.
“You engaged us. It was equally refreshing to have a presentation that considered both the law and the practical realities of the law. Far too often we have all theory and little common sense in these presentations. You answered my questions with good-spirited frankness. I think you can tell by the extent of the discussion afterwards that your talk was well received. Over the course of the conference I heard some 20 presentations – yours was one of the most memorable - certainly one of the best.”
“I found your presentation to be one of the very best at the conference,” agreed Prof Ronald Bacigal of the University of Richmond in Virginia in the USA. “It was superior both in its content and in the interesting way in which you presented it. It is a real pleasure to listen to a presentation that is both informative and entertaining. Best of luck in your future career, and please keep in contact.”
