Univen strengthens bond with its Alumni

The University Of Venda hosted its Alumni Annual general meeting at the Senate Chamber on Saturday, 24 September 2011. The meeting was well attended by alumni from different professions. The President, of Convocation Mr Shumani Ravhuanzwo delivered his report to all alumni present on the day.
Mr Ravhuanzwo informed the meeting about the activities and responsibilities of the Executive Committee of Convocation. He further indicated in his report that alumni are the nucleus of this University and should give back to the University community through research output. He also appreciated the support that the office always receives from the Senior Management of the University of Venda. He also mentioned that the Executive Committee of Convocation will continue to revamp chapters in Gauteng, Polokwane and Mpumalanga as well as to establish chapters in North West, Free State and Western Cape. Mr Ravhuanzwo urged the alumni to update their contact details when they change jobs or relocate.
One of the Alumni members who wish to remain anonymous was interviewed about how he feels to be an alumnus of Univen. He emphasised that the trend must be for us to talk and act everyday like alumni is a profession, demonstrate to the University and the world that we are professionals both by how we act and how we look. We should create career paths so that the best of our young professionals see alumni as more than a singular job, advocate for demonstrations of professionalism in things such as certification and academic programs. We must also continue to support research regarding the impact of alumni on the institution in order to demonstrate their value.
The meeting was attended amongst others by former President of the Student Representative Assembly, Mr Terrence Kuaho, and Mr Nditsheni Tshithavhavhane who is a Chartered Accountant and senior lecturer in the School of Management Sciences. There was active participation from the Alumni members. Alumni members asked questions and made comments as far as convocation matters are concerned.
