Your education is our business


You Qualify for NSFAS funding if you meet the following criteria:

·         You are a South African citizen and

·         You are studying your first post-school qualification at a public university or TVET college and

·         You are registering for your course for the first time in 2018 or 2019 and

·         You come from a family who are SASSA beneficiaries or

·         Your household income does not exceed R350 000 per year


You need the following documents to apply:

·         Certified copy of your South African birth certificate or ID document.

·         Certified copies of proof of income if your parent/s or guardian/s are employed.

·         Certified copies of your parent/s or guardian/s ID.

·         A completed consent form signed by your parent/s or guardian/s which is needed to verify their identity and income.

·         If you have a disability, please complete Disability Annexure A.


No emailed or posted applications will be accepted.


What does the bursary cover?

·         Tuition fees

·         Accommodation allowance

·         Meal allowance

·         Transport allowance

·         Book allowance

·         Registration fees

Ensure that you have certified copies of the following before you apply:

1.    Your South African ID or a birth certificate

2.    ID of parent/s or guardian/s or a death certificate if applicable

3.    Pay advice/letter of employment/pension advice stating income (SASSA slips are not required and SASSA should not be included as household income)

4.    Download a Consent Form from  www.nsfas.org.za which must be completed and signed


NB: All copies should not be older than 3 months

1.    South African citizens with a combined annual household income of/below R350 000 or are SASSA grant recipients, registering for the first time at a public university or TVET college in 2019. Or those that have passed Grade 9 & 10 and require NSFAS funding to study at a TVET college in 2019.


2.    South African citizens with a combined annual household income of/ below R122 000 or are SASSA grant recipients that have been studying at a public university or TVET college and registered before 2018 and require NSFAS funding in 2019.

Yes. Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply for financial assistance
