Univen Mathematician publishes on the solution of the Sixth problem of the millennium

A mathematician in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences, Joe Hlomuka, recently published a solution to the “Sixth problem of the millennium” in the “Far East Journal of Applied Mathematics”. To access this please go to: http://pphmj.com/abstract/4843.htm

Background
In his famous address in the Mathematical Congress, held in Paris in 1900, Professor David Hilbert challenged the mathematicians of the world with 24 unsolved problems. He dared them to solve the problems by 1999. Although his speech was in the German language, we quote the translation thereof: “A mathematical problem should be difficult in order to entice us, yet not inaccessible, lest it mock our efforts”. By 1999, six/seven of the Hilbert problems still remained unsolved. One cannot fault the late Professor if he were to be spinning in his grave! He was so much dedicated to mathematical research that even in his last breathe he uttered the following words: “We must know; we will know.” One of Professor Hilbert’s students was Professor Richard Courant, founder of the Courant Institute at the University of New York. In 2000, the Clay Mathematical Institute, in the M.I.T (USA), replicated Hilbert’s challenge to the mathematicians of the world with 7 unsolved problems, supposed to be solved by 2099. Only one of these problems has been solved so far (by a Russian mathematician): the Poincare Conjecture.
