On Saturday, 4 September 2010 a delegation from Masia Development Trust (MDT) was on campus to co-reflect with their UNIVEN counterparts on the progress made so far with implementation of the MoU. MDT delegation was led by Thovhele Vho Nthumeni Masia and UNIVEN by Prof Peter Mbati.
The Director of Centre for Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation (CRDPA), Prof Joseph Francis gave an overview of the work undertaken to date. He articulated how the CRDPA, working with local leaders in Ha-Masia, had facilitated the construction of a Masia Community Development Plan. There are plans to launch the development plan, present it to the University community and also market it so that implementation resources can be secured. All parties to the reflection meeting were very impressed by what had been achieved within a short time after the MoU signing ceremony. They were unanimous in their assessment that indeed, the MoU was not gathering dust.
On 19 September 2009, the University of Venda and Masia Development Trust (MDT) signed a memorandum of understanding that shaped a partnership for people-led community development. At UNIVEN, the Centre for Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation (CRDPA) was assigned the responsibility of spearheading implementation of the MoU.
