The process of preparing for the elective Annual General Meeting of Convocation commenced few months ago after the 07th December 2019 had been identified and agreed upon as the date on which all processes shall be concluded including electing new leadership.
Since the announcement of the Convocation elective AGM, we had been receiving overwhelming requests to make provision for online voting to accommodate most of UNIVEN convocants who would not make it to the University Campus for the AGM. Having been persuaded by these numerous requests, we feel that it will not be reasonable for us to deprive the convocants’ right to vote, and it is in the interest of the University to be inclusive, not to exclude the majority of convocants.
In order for us to make provision for online voting, we’ll need some weeks. It is in this context that we have decided to reschedule the elective AGM to a date yet to be decided in January 2020 and we further feel that there is no harm to reschedule the elections to accommodate UNIVEN convocants than to continue with the process which is likely to exclude the majority of convocants. We are therefore confident that the process of putting online voting system in place would be concluded in January 2020, which would enable the University to proclaim the new date for elections.
Thank you for your understanding.
