Research

Research Interests

The extraction of bioactive metabolites from plants using green extraction methods and the evaluation of their potential as natural therapeutic agents for the treatment of various ailments, with particular interest in their potential for reduced adverse effects compared with synthetic drugs.

Current Work

Current & Recent Projects

  • Extraction of antioxidant metabolites from Cassia abbreviate, Amarunthus, and Bidens Pilosa using natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES).
  • Optimizing the NADES to achieve maximum extraction so that they can be used as alternatives to toxic organic solvents.
  • Performing assay activities to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the extracts.
  • Employing LC-MS and computational metabolomics tools to evaluate the metabolites in the extracts.
Teaching

Teaching Areas

  • Lectures applied analytical chemistry to 2nd and 3rd year students.
