About Us

The Department of Animal Science provides knowledge and practical skills for commercial, emerging and public-sector livestock systems. Its programmes develop analytical, critical-thinking, communication and computer-literacy skills while addressing real challenges in animal production, health and welfare.

Department Information

Animal breeding and genetics; animal nutrition; livestock production systems; animal physiology, health and welfare; pasture and rangeland use; sustainable and climate-smart livestock production.

Teaching and research are linked to community development and the needs of commercial and small-scale livestock producers.
