The University of Venda SRC President, Mr Smile Manganyi has been suspended on Sunday 22 May 2022. The suspension follows an illegal protest action which persisted despite the University Management’s endeavor to engage with the student leadership and eventually responding positively to most of the demands contained in the memorandum.

The suspension letter stipulates that Mr Manganyi’s conduct has caused serious financial loss to the University and brought the name of the University into disrepute as the protesters went to the extent of damaging University and Municipal Infrastructures. The suspension is in accordance with the University of Venda Student Rules and Regulations which empower the Vice Chancellor and Principal, in the event of any infringement of discipline or misconduct by a student, to exercise discipline himself/herself and may, if a charge of misconduct against a student is under investigation, under certain circumstances immediately suspend the student from the University until the hearing date.

The suspension shall remain effective until the finalisation of investigation and possible subsequent disciplinary processes against Mr Manganyi. This implies that Mr Manganyi should not represent the University in any capacity or perform any tasks for the University during the period of his suspension.
