This serves as confirmation that a student case of COVID-19 at the University of Venda has been reported on Friday 03 July 2020. The student is now in self-isolation. This case has been confirmed by the District Department of Health through the prescribed protocol.
The process of tracing people who were in close contact with the student is underway. The necessary communication was done with the people who were in contact with the student. We wish our affected student a speedy and full recovery, and strength to all during the quarantine period.
It is worth noting that there are three staff members who tested positive between March and June 2020 and we’re glad to announce that all three staff members are now COVID-19 free.
It is important to note that we are committed to maintain confidentiality in relation to the medical conditions of our staff and students. As with any other disease, people who are COVID-19 positive have a right to privacy.
We encourage staff and students to stay safe and to follow basic principles to reduce the risk of transmission of the disease. If you experience any symptoms associated with COVID-19 such as fever, tiredness, dry cough or shortness of breath, call the hotline of the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) at 0800 029 999.
