Our living and learning programmes reflect our conscious commitment to providing an environment that is conducive for our students, and we have invested in ensuring that the programmes contribute to healthy minds and bodies. The Living and Learning Programme is an umbrella term for all the residential communities available on campus. These programmes are unique and provide students with an opportunity to learn and engage with one another and share similar interests and values. This is achieved by providing a comprehensive variety of co-curricular programmes, services and opportunities through which students can develop and improve their skills and critical competencies and in so doing reach their full potential. Our programmes remain committed to providing an environment that is diverse, safe and nurturing, one which can contribute to the overall development of our student experience.
Whilst student development and support is dynamic in its nature, the department foregrounds its array of services on epistemological concepts and theories, inclusive of the living and learning communities’ concepts. Every effort is made to ensure that students’ residence life experience will foster their holistic development as well as being fully supportive of their academic programme. The holistic student support initiative is embedded in the co-curricular activities; mainly as student learning centres, psycho-social, life-skills and peer-peer academic support.
Student Housing at the University of Venda strives to create a living and learning environment as the foundation of its residence culture and best practices. To pivot a smooth transition for students from basic education into the higher education, and accumulatively nurture the (w)holistic development of students through multiple ways of becoming. To contribute to the Retention, development, and success of students through the co-curriculum. Integrate departmental practices with the university’s strategic objectives, and foster collaboration with other departments within the Univen eco-system to synergize impact towards student
