The University of Venda (UNIVEN) is proud to announce the recent appointment of the Registrar, Dr. Joel Baloyi, to high-profile roles in the university sector, which demonstrates the confidence his peers have in his capabilities.
On 17 March 2026 the Registrar’s Forum announced the unanimous election of Dr Joel Baloyi as Deputy Chairperson of the Forum. The Registrar’s Forum is a representative body of all Registrars of public higher education institutions (with representation from private higher education institutions), and serves as a platform for collaboration, networking and sharing of knowledge and good practices on issues of common interest in the Registrar’s role. It is one of the recognised communities of practice within the auspices of Universities South Africa (USAf), which are forums comprising specialist professionals from various disciplines related to the functioning of Universities. The Registrar’s Forum hosts the Registrar’s Imbizo on an annual basis and in 2024 UNIVEN had the privilege of hosting this event for the first time, which was hailed as a great success. We congratulate the Registrar for this important milestone and for leaving an indelible mark in the sector.
The above achievement comes in the wake of another important milestone: the appointment of the Registrar as a co-opted member of the USAf Admissions Committee, a key national structure responsible for shaping university admissions policies and practices across South Africa. This prestigious appointment is for a period of three years, until 31 July 2028. As part of the USAf Admissions Committee, Dr Baloyi works collaboratively with fellow experts to influence and strengthen frameworks that govern student access to higher education and the formulation of new admission policies for recommendation to the Minister of Higher Education through USAf. His participation in this committee will ensure that UNIVEN continues to play an active role in national policy dialogues and contributes to a fair, inclusive, and progressive higher education system.
