The Human Resources Department successfully hosted an Interns Farewell and Certificate Handover Ceremony on 31 March 2026 at the Research Conference Centre. The event marked the completion of the internship programme and served to recognise the interns’ meaningful contributions to the institutional performance, particularly in supporting the achievement and realisation of the University’s strategic objectives. Through their active participation, skills development and professional growth, the interns added value to departmental operations while being adequately prepared for the future roles within the world of work.

During her opening remarks, Director: Human Resource, Mrs Uanda Ndou highlighted that success starts with a positive attitude, the right mindset, and meaningful relationships. She was encouraging the interns to respect others, choose their associations wisely, stay disci-plined, and make the most of every opportunity for growth in the workplace as they go.
The programme featured reflections on the internship journey, highlighting the skills and experience gained. Key stakeholders, including representatives from NYDA and ABSA, shared valu-able insights on youth opportunities, financial literacy, and job readiness, equipping interns for the next phase of their careers.

The NYDA representative, Mr Ndivhuwo Mbulaheni who is a Training Officer highlighted the re-ality of youth unemployment in South Africa and urged interns to think beyond employment by exploring entrepreneurship. He encouraged them to use their skills to start businesses, noting that NYDA offers both financial and non-financial support, including grants for viable business ideas. Emphasising that even small funding can create opportunities, he called on young peo-ple to take initiative, prepare for life after their stipend, and actively participate in the economy by becoming job creators rather than job seekers.

Mr Douglas Rangata from ABSA Equipped participants with practical financial management skills. His emphasis was that the programme is designed to participants with practical knowl-edge on managing their finances. Mr Rangata indicated the importance of budgeting, under-standing income and expenses, and avoiding unnecessary debt.

The highlight of this session was the official presentation of certificates, recognising all the interns’ dedication and successful completion of the programme. The ceremony concluded with words of appreciation by Mr Matamela Matibe, the Training and Development Practitioner acknowledging the commitment of both interns and mentors in making the programme a suc-cess.
