Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infections at the University of Venda

AIM: The purpose of the research is to determine the level of exposure to SARS- CoV-2 among unvaccinated staff and students at UNIVEN. A rapid test will be used to detect the IgM (recent infections) and IgG (late infections) antibodies produced by the immune-system against the virus that causes COVID-19. Antibody testing is free and intended only for research purposes not for diagnostic testing; and is done at the University main gate, University Campus Health and University Maungani gate. Research will run from 25 April 2022 – December 2022. The study has received ethical approval from the Human and Clinical Trials Research Ethics Committee of UNIVEN.

EXPECTED OUTCOME: Data obtained will be important for institutional discussions and directives to manage SARS-CoV-2 infections on campus.
