He also graduated Cum Laude at the master’s level in Crop Genetic Improvement within the same department.

Passionate about agricultural innovation and food security, Dr Mashifane’s research focuses on climate-smart and underutilised crops that have the potential to improve rural livelihoods across the developing world. He remains committed to mentoring emerging scholars in FSEA under the leadership of the Executive Dean, Prof Natasha Potgieter.
Congratulating Dr Mashifane on the achievement, Executive Dean of FSEA, Prof Natasha Potgieter, described the award as a reflection of his dedication, leadership and commitment to academic excellence and community development.

“Dr Mashifane continues to inspire many young scholars through his resilience, passion for research and willingness to uplift others. His achievements embody the values and vision of the university. We are proud of his accomplishments and encourage him to continue making a meaningful contribution towards agricultural innovation, food security and the development of future scientists,” said Prof Potgieter.
