Learners attentively listening to the speakers during Mulenzhe Community Career Awareness Programme

The University of Venda (Univen) in collaboration with Mulenzhe Development Trust and Limpopo Department of Education hosted a Community Career Awareness Programme at Mulenzhe Community Hall, Ha Piet Booi recently.

The purpose was to teach and deepen the culture of learning, especially in rural communities in which the University is situated. The Skills Education Training Authorities (SETA), National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) were also in attendance.

The Community Careers Awareness Programme was attended by more than one thousand learners from Mukhwantheli, Movhe and Johannes Ramavhoya Secondary Schools as well as community members.
Univen Chief Admissions Officer, Mr Seth Ugoda, encouraged learners to apply for admission at Univen before the closing date of 29 September 2017. He said Univen has introduced an online application system which will make the application process easier.

Ms Elelwani Netshituni from Bank-SETA informed learners that they offer learnerships and bursaries for learners who are interested in enrolling for accounting qualifications. She emphasised that they must study hard and pass Mathematics and Accounting so that they could qualify to further their studies in accounting at tertiary level. “There is a shortage of Chartered Accountants in South Africa and Bank-SETA provides funding for those interested in pursuing this scarce and critical career,” she added.

Representatives from Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA), Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA), Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (MERSETA), Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) and NYDA encouraged learners to apply for learnerships and bursaries. They also encouraged them to study hard and obtain better results so that they could qualify for these bursaries.
