The University of Venda (Univen) in partnership with Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) – Kenya; Walter Sisulu University (WSU)-South Africa; Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST)-Botswana and Ibadan University (IU) – Nigeria will host the First Pan African International Research Congress on Knowledge generation and Dissemination in Africa. The International Research Congress that will be hosted by MMUST will take place from 18-23 June 2018 in Kisumu, Kenya under the theme ‘Harnessing Research Output for Sustainable Development’.

The Congress will serve as a platform for harnessing research output in addressing sustainable development goals. Presentations have been clustered into the following six related subthemes: Science and Technology for Sustainable Development; Education, Social Services and Health for Sustainable Development; Governance and Economic Development; Indigenous and Alternative Knowledge Systems for Development; Research and Knowledge Management for Commercialization; Climate Change and Environmental Management for Sustainable Development.

Univen’s Director of Research and Innovation who is overseeing the success of the Congress and also the Chairperson of the Scientific Committee of the Congress, Senior Prof Georges-Ivo Ekosse highlighted that the partnership of these five universities will certainly add value to the generation of knowledge.

About 350 presenters are expected to participate during this Congress.

The First Pan African Congress was conceptualized during the second UNIVEN-WSU International Research Conference which took place from 05 to 07 October 2016 at the Ranch Hotel in Polokwane. The UNIVEN and Walter Sisulu University successfully held the 2016 joint International Research Conference. Part of the conference was to train and mentor postgraduate students.
