We are thrilled to announce that the University of Venda is the fourth best university in South Africa younger than 50 years. This is according to the Times Higher Education Young University rankings. UNIVEN has been ranked 351-400 in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings in 2024. This is an improvement as compared to its 2023 rankings. These rankings were released on Tuesday, 14 May 2024 by Times Higher Education and are for Young Universities that are 50 years old or younger. The rankings indicate the list of the world’s best universities. According to these ranking, five South African universities qualified, with UJ leading the University of KwaZulu Natal, North-West University, University of Venda, and Durban University of Technology. The Times Higher Education Young University Rankings are based on the same performance indicators as the flagship The World University Rankings, but the weightings have been adjusted to give less weight to reputation. These universities are judged across all their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook – to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available. The 2024 ranking included 673 universities, up from 605 in
2023. Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Bernard Nthambeleni was delighted to receive the news and thanked staff members for their effort into making sure that this University achieve its goals. “We are indeed on the right path and the results of remaining locally relevant being globally competitive are evident.”
