During the official handing over of the SARChI Museum and Research Centre to the Univen SARCHI (NRF-DST) Research Chair on Biodiversity Value and Change that took place on Wednesday, 12 September 2018, the SARChI Chair announced a successful fellowship of R5 million from the Department of Higher Education & Training (DHET) for the University Staff Development Programme (USDP) on “Mountain Research”. He recognized four Univen fellows who have been selected for the programme, out of ten successful fellows from Univen and the QwaQwa campus of the University of Free State (UFS). The fellows will also receive mentorship, support and skills training from colleagues from three US institutions, Appalachian State University, University of Montana and University of Colorado. Each fellow will spend two months at their host US institution during a three-year period.

The four successful Fellows were Mukondeleli Manuga (front row, third from left), Farai Dondofema (second row, second from right), Stanislous Zindiye (first row, second from right), and Edmore Kori (first row, third from right). The USDP Committee at Univen comprises the SARChI Chair Prof Peter Taylor (second row on far right), Dr Segun Obadire (first row on far right) and Prof Vhonani Netshandama (first row on far left).

The successful Fellows were congratulated by Prof Ainamensa Mchau (acting for the DVC Academic), second row, far left, the Dean of Mathematical & Natural Sciences, Prof Natasha Potgieter (first row, second from left) and Dr Ralph Clark, Director of the Afromontane Institute at UFS, and PI for the USDP on Mountain Research (second row, second from left).
