The University of Venda (UNIVEN) proudly celebrates Dr Oluwaseun Peter Bamidele, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Food Science and Technology, who has recently been awarded a C2 rating by South Africa’s National Research Foundation (NRF). This distinguished recognition highlights his significant contributions to the field of Food Science and Technology and his growing reputation as a researcher of international standing.

Dr Bamidele joined UNIVEN in 2022, bringing with him a wealth of experience and an impressive academic background. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in food science and technology from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, where he graduated with distinction, and a PhD in Food Science from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Before joining UNIVEN, he completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Mpumalanga.

Driven by curiosity and a commitment to improving food systems, Dr Bamidele’s research explores food chemistry, functional foods, encapsulation of bioactive compounds, food processing and preservation, and foodomics. His work bridges science and innovation, focusing on improving the quality, safety, and nutritional value of food products.

An active member of several professional bodies, including the South African Association of Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST), the Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), and the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP), Dr Bamidele continues to demonstrate his dedication to advancing food science both locally and globally.

Over the years, he has published more than 40 research papers in high-impact international journals and secured several competitive research grants, including those funded by the Water Research Commission (WRC) and Foodomics collaborations with Belgium. Beyond his research, he is deeply committed to mentorship, having guided over ten honours, master’s, and doctoral students, and currently supervises and co-supervises 5 PhD students across various South African universities.

Dr Bamidele’s NRF C2 rating stands as a testament to his research excellence, leadership, and the growing influence of his work in shaping the future of food science and technology. His recognition underscores UNIVEN’s growing research footprint and its commitment to nurturing globally competitive scholars.
