On 12 and 13 July 2018, Enactus University of Venda (Univen) participated in the programme of Enactus South Africa National Competition in Sandton Convention Centre.

Univen Enactus Team presented the project called Hi-Hanyile Essential Oil and Medicinal Plant which addresses the issue of malaria. According to the presenters, malaria is a life-threatening mosquito borne disease and about 212 malaria cases have been reported in 2017 only. This project focuses on making the mosquito repellent candles that aims to reduce malaria cases. The candles are made from the oil that has been extracted from the plant called Lippia Javannica.

This project was adopted in 2017 and introduced in London during the 2017 Enactus world cup. From this presentation, Enactus Univen team was awarded 2018 first place winner for outstanding team growth award, the team also received the participation award and a certificate.

Enactus Univen is currently running five projects namely, Mukondeni Pottery and Ceramic Water Filters, Pectin, Street Hawkers, Sewing and Hi-Hanyile project. It is comprised of a team of 162 dedicated members, 3 faculty advisors, 8 Univen Alumni and 5 Business Advisory board members.

Enactus is an international non-profit organization that works with leaders in business and Higher Education to mobilize university students to make difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Enactus is operating in 40 countries worldwide with 28 tertiary institutions in South Africa including the University of Venda.
