Prof Makhado had shown multiple levels of commitment to nursing and collaborative research both nationally and internationally. This is evident with his NRF rating and extensive publications (articles and book chapters) in national and international accredited journals. In his induction and award acceptance speech, Prof Makhado indicated that his journey couldn’t have been this successful if it wasn’t watered and pruned constantly by his mentors, advisors, wife, collaborators, research projects team members, his PhD graduates and all friends through their varying levels of contribution, which had continued to be impactful in his growth. He also indicated that his growth was not only encouraged and motivated by those who touched his life positively but also by those who negatively impacted his life.
Prof Makhado further indicated that through the support of others, he learned that “we grow by lifting others. It is important to mention that others lifted me, and I feel it is safe to say I am passionate about developing others and lifting others in my path and carrying the nursing and health sciences research forward,” added Prof Makhado.
