The South African Humanities Deans Association (SAHUDA), in partnership with the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS), are pleased to announce SAHUDA’s 2nd Biennial National Conference to be co-hosted by the University of Limpopo (UL) and the University of Venda (UNIVEN).

CONFERENCE THEME

Humanity’s Imminent Crisis: An Urgent Call for the Restoration of Peace, Stability, and Well-Being.

CONFERENCE TOPICS

Anchored by the conference theme, “Humanity’s Imminent Crisis: An Urgent Call for the Restoration of Peace, Stability, and Well-Being”, the following conference topics are proposed, and all seek to answer the question, What role can Africa play in maintaining global peace, stability, and wellbeing, especially considering the recent COVID-19 scare and the strained state of international relations? An emphasis is placed on how the emergence of decoloniality and indigenization discourses emerge as prospects for the restoration of humanity’s peace, stability, and wellbeing.

The conference will be structured around six main topics:

  • History, Memory, and Politics
  • Law and Developmental Studies
  • Cultural Identities, Cultural Diversity, and Intercultural Relations
  • Psychology, Disharmony, and Mental Wellbeing
  • Philosophy, Religion and Education Studies
  • Arts, Communication, and Media Studies:

Along with the pre-selected topics that seek to respond to the key conference question, SAHUDA and NIHSS welcome submissions from all social sciences and humanities-related fields and encourage speakers to respond to related issues guided by humanistic methodologies and epistemologies. Oral and poster presentations from the arts, humanities, and social sciences, digital humanities, environmental humanities, medical humanities, and business humanities are welcome.
