The Director of Vhembe Biosphere Reserves NPC, Mr Tonderai Makoni visits Ismail Mahomed Centre for Human and Peoples’ Rights

On the 6^th of October 2023, the Ismail Mahomed Centre for Human and Peoples’ Rights, received the Director of Vhembe Biosphere Reserves (VBR), Mr Tonderai Makoni to explore funding possibilities around areas of mutual interests. The highlight of the discussion was on developing proposals for funding on the theme of climate justice and broader participation of the VBR in the upcoming round table conference being convened in partnership with JAMMA International on the rights of local populations to sustainable use of environmental resources. Both parties are excited that the collaborative efforts being developed will strengthen capacitation and participation of local communities, particularly women, on issues of sustainable use and sustainable development, guaranteed in national and regional human rights instruments, the latter including the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, known as the Maputo Protocol.
