From the rural village of Tshavhalovhedzi in Nzhelele to the graduation stage at the University of Venda, Mr Mukhethwa Mukhadi, popularly known in music circles as Mike Tuney, is proving that academic excellence and artistic talent can thrive side by side. Since enrolling in Public Administration studies in 2019, he has steadily climbed the academic ladder, completing his Bachelor’s degree in 2023, and his Honours degree in 2025, and is now preparing to graduate with a Master of Administration degree at the University’s autumn graduation during the first session on 19 May 2026. His research focuses on the effects of unethical conduct on the performance of Municipal Ward Councillors in selected municipalities of Limpopo Province. He has already embarked on the next chapter of his academic journey through a PhD focusing on Coalition Government.
Beyond the lecture halls, “Mike Tuney” has continued to make waves in the music industry, earning recognition on MTV Base and Channel O with his song “Secure the Bag” featuring AB Crazy, while also securing nominations at the 015 City Awards. His journey reflects discipline, resilience, and balance, as he successfully managed demanding academic commitments alongside a growing music career. Through his story, Mukhethwa sends a powerful message to young people, especially those from rural communities, that education remains a vital foundation for sustainable growth, leadership, and meaningful contribution to society.
