Records management is every staff member’s responsibility 

The Organisational Development and Training Unit in the Department of Human Resources has recently coordinated Records Management Workshop to equip attendees with basic knowledge and skills in records management and understanding of different theories and ideologies in the field of records management. This workshop took place at Jericho Resort from Monday, 19 until Friday, 23 November 2018. 

Ms Nosipho Ngangani, who is the Head: Records and Archives Management stated that the workshop was intended to equip staff with skills that would assist in improving the competencies in executing their records related functions. The workshop would further enable participants to promote transparency, accountability, protection of human rights and preserve and conserve information throughout their life cycle. “The attendees would be able to reference, handle, maintain and care for their valuable records and assist in developing and implementing the records management systems,” she said. 

The admission requirements for this workshop was NQF Level 4 and two years of experience in a records centre, archives, registry, office management and other related fields. This workshop targeted registry staff, admin staff, archivists, librarians, filing clerks, records managers, and secretaries. The workshop covered modules such as basic concepts and definitions as per the policy and procedures; Records management; Responsibilities of the officials within the institution from top management; Types of records; File plan; Registries and Records Centre processes; Legal frameworks and Categorise records according to its importance.
