School of Law

Faculty of Management, Commerce and Law

Head of School’s Welcome Message

Welcome to the School of Law at the University of Venda.

The School of Law has only one site of delivery in Thohoyandou and is housed within the Faculty of Management, Commerce and Law. Inspired by the institutional Plan of 2021-2025, the School aims to produce well-rounded law and criminal justice graduates in an environment underpinned by student centredness and engaged scholarship, entrepreneurship, governance for outstanding scholarship and linkages, partnerships and internationalisation.

I warmly welcome our first years and returning students to the School of Law in 2022 and wish them all the best in their sojourn at UNIVEN. I also welcome our hard-working academic and support staff, who are the anchors of the academic project. We are very proud of our Law and Criminal Justice Programmes at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, managed under the academic departments of Criminal Justice, Mercantile & Private Law and Public Law. The Law Clinic is also a vital cog in the wheel of the School of Law – the Law Clinic provides practical legal training to law students and offers legal services to indigent members of our immediate community.

In terms of its vision, which is inspired by its institutional counterpart, our School aspires to be at the forefront of transformative tertiary education in law and criminal justice and produce graduates who are locally relevant and globally competitive.
